The aftercare of your tattoo will greatly determine the way it will look once fully healed. At Ink Therapy 101 we have spent countless hours studying and researching the best methods to heal your tattoo. To achieve bright vibrant colors and smooth shading all you have to do is follow our instructions, not what your friends and family say. A lot has changed in the tattoo industry and aftercare is one of those. We have learned that the old way using ointments which are mostly petroleum based do nothing but smother your tattoo. This puts you at a greater risk for infection and poor healing, resulting in loss of tones and textures as well as color. For more information about risk of infection refer to the aftercare section on our website. InkTherapy101.org.

STEP-BY-STEP AFTER CARE PLEASE FOLLOW
Wear your Tegaderm bandage for 3 to 5 days. Only change your bandage if plasma is leaking out of the sides of your bandage. If this happens they sell Tegaderm bandages at Walgreens. We supply your first bandage, however you must buy another one if your bandage needs changed. “It’s best to have a friend help with this.” To change your bandage its best to take it off in the shower, so you don’t make a mess all over the floor. After you take off your bandage whether early or after the 5 days follow these steps.
1.) With clean hands wash your tattoo with antibacterial soap using only your finger tips. not a wash cloth or poofy.
2.) Using cool water will help make cleaning your tattoo easier. Once fully clean and all the plasma and build up is completely off, you should now pat dry your tattoo “using a clean towel.”
3.) Once fully dry if your bandage came off you can now apply your second bandage. If you are at the end of your 5 days and have done steps 1 and 2 you are now ready to start the lotion stage.
4.) Wash your hands and apply a VERY thin coat of your preferred lotion or skin conditioning oil. Some people find that coco butter oil lasts longer and conditions the skin better for a much longer lasting effect. Easier when your at work, so your not running to the bathroom to lotion every 20 minutes. Since it has been 5 days and your pores are all closed and risk of infection is at a minimum, using coco butter oil is fine. For those of you with sensitive skin we recommend Lubriderm sensitive skin. Remember you still have to keep your tattoo clean, even in the lotion stage. Making sure to wash your tattoo 3 to 4 times a day with antibacterial soap.
If your bandage comes off early and you do not wish to purchase another one, We recommend still staying away from any types of ointments. Instead for a much better looking tattoo you should use the dry heal method.
To do this all you do is wash your tattoo 3 to 5 times a day with antibacterial soap. refer to steps 1 and 2 above.
We repeat NO OINTMENTS..... After doing the dry heal method for 3 days now you can go to a sensitive skin lotion. Since it has only been 3 days using the dry heal method it is important to make sure you use non scented and make sure it is alcohol free. Use the lotion keeping your tattoo moist still keeping it clean 3 to 5 times a day. You should do this for 2 weeks.
As always keep your tattoo out of direct sun light, no tanning, no baths, no swimming for 2 weeks or until fully healed. Once your tattoo is fully healed we recommend sun block if your gonna be out for long periods.
